About Seaweed Yarn
We are on a mission.
Seaweed Yarn will make the textile industry much more sustainable. We believe seaweed is the best source for raw material because seaweed doesn’t require freshwater, agricultural ground or pesticides to grow. It grows up to 30 cm per day and that makes it a very renewable source.
We process seaweed into yarn without the use of any chemicals. We work circular and have a holistic approach to the production processes.
Seaweed Yarn is founded by Anne Boermans and Nienke Hoogvliet. After years of research by Nienke in how to use seaweed to create a sustainable yarn and dye, she teamed up with Anne to start the upscaling phase.
About Anne Boermans (business founder)
Anne is an experienced manager and marketeer. After more than 25 years of experience in non-profits, profits and entrepreneurship she fell in love with seaweed, too.
About Nienke Hoogvliet (creative founder)
Nienke is the founder of Studio Nienke Hoogvliet, a design studio for material research, concept and textile design. She started researching seaweed as a source for textiles since 2014 and created several projects like SEA ME, the SEA ME Collection and the Seaweed Research book. These projects have been exhibited worldwide in institutions like Centre Pompidou (Paris), Textielmuseum (Tilburg), Artipelag (Stockholm).
